Massage therapy is an ancient healing art whose history can be traced back 3,000 years to China. Massage uses manipulation of the superficial or deep tissue, muscle, or connective tissue by applying pressure with hands, arms, or elbows. Such applications may include kneading, stretching or stroking.
Massage/Bodywork improves joint flexibility and relieves stress and muscle tension. Massage therapy can include the use of heat lamps, hydrotherapy, electrotherapy, and reflexology.
Types of Massage Therapy at East-West Centers include:

• Sports Massage: A combination of classic and specific techniques designed to provide therapeutic benefits for the unique physical and biomechanical needs of each athlete.
• Swedish Massage: A vigorous surface and deeper massage to flush soreness-producing toxins out of the muscles and increase circulation.
• Deep Tissue: A deeper, more thorough massage, for the soft and connective tissues of the body
• Acupressure: The use of special points on the body to loosen muscles, break up stagnation of energy, and relax ligaments and connective tissue.
• Specific Stretch: The application of a determined pressure into a localized area of soft tissue, which is then extended from a flexed position directly under the pressure.
• Reiki: A healing art which balances and adjusts the body’s energy by laying on of hands. Reiki brings mind, body, and spirit into harmony by naturally aligning the body’s energy (Rei=Life, Ki=Energy). Reiki is great for lowering blood pressure, dealing with chronic pain, and for stress management.
